I examined how many Oilers have a chance to score 20 goals in the next season the other week. I started to consider how good the Oilers offense could be in 2024–25 after looking through the list.
Naturally, a club that features Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl will find a way to generate a lot of offensive production, but the Oilers’ summer acquisitions have given us reason to believe that the squad we see next season may be the best of the McDavid era.
Beginning with the starting lineup, McDavid and Draisaitl should both be more productive in 2023–24 than they were in 2023–24. McDavid scored only 50% of the goals he scored in the previous season, barely managed to reach the 30-goal threshold after leading the league with 64, and his point total dropped by 21 points.
Although McDavid only missed six games due to injury last season, he struggled for extended periods of time. I definitely expect him to be back in the 40-goal, 140-point range at the very least, if he’s back to his normal self.
Regarding Draisaitl, it was the lowest it had been in three seasons as his shooting % dropped a few points. For the first time since 2020–21, he finished with fewer than 50 goals, though not significantly. With all the new talent surrounding him, I believe he has the potential to return to his career’s three-time 50-goal plateau.
