Liel Abada: The Israeli international spends $10 million to join Charlotte FC of the Major League Soccer.
Due to personal reasons, the Israel international was not included in recent Celtic squads due to the continuing Middle East crisis; In a £10 million deal, Liel Abada joined MLS team Charlotte FC; Alexandro Bernabei left Celtic to take a loan position with Brazilian team Internacional.
After the Israel international joined Major League Soccer team Charlotte FC, Celtics manager Brendan Rodgers called the Israel international’s departure “desperately sad” but best for both parties.
After Abada’s last appearance for Celtic, on February 7, in a 2-1 victory against Hibernian, Rodgers thought he was unable to concentrate on playing at his best.
Due to Celtic followers’ support for the Palestinian people, the 22-year-old had under intense pressure in his native country. One international teammate even openly advised him to go on.
In September of last year, he inked a new four-year contract, shortly before sustaining a thigh injury that sidelined him for about four months.
Rodgers lamented not getting to collaborate with the winger, who netted 29 goals in 112 games.
“First of all, the entire situation is incredibly depressing,” stated the Celtic manager. “A fantastic young player who arrived from another country at the age of 19, lit up the field with numerous amazing goals, and had a really successful spell.”
“Despite any reservations he may have had in the summer, he was thrilled to commit and sign a new contract.
