U2 remains one of the biggest and bestselling bands of all time. They claim a fan base large enough that anytime they release anything–even if it’s not publicized, or even if it is largely made up of older material–it sells well.
The Irish rockers dropped a new EP on Friday (July 19) titled Beautiful Day. The short collection is based around the single of the same name, which ranks among the group’s most memorable. Fans of the quartet were quick to pick up copies, and it didn’t take long for it to become a global bestseller.
At the time of writing, Beautiful Day sits at No. 30 on iTunes’ worldwide ranking. It’s beating new albums from well-known musical acts like Deadmau5 (Some EP, No. 37), Highly Suspect (As Above, So Below, No. 38), and rising country-rock favorite Koe Wetzel (9 Lives, No. 40).
Beautiful Day is a nine-song EP that features the original single, front and center. Three remixes of the tune also end the collection, including one by Dave Holmes.
The EP also includes studio versions of the songs “Summer Rain” and “Always.” Those cuts were featured on the extended version of their album All That You Can’t Leave Behind, which was reissued for its twentieth anniversary. “Beautiful Day” was the lead single from the Grammy-winning full-length.
