After agreeing to a £25 million deal, Matt O’Riley is very close to leaving Celtic for Brighton.

The 23-year-old is now expected to sign a contract with the Seagulls, becoming their newest midfield player. Throughout the summer, the Italian team Atalanta made many unsuccessful attempts to sign him.

Mail Sport has learned that there won’t be any add-ons in the agreement, but £25 million is almost exactly what Celtic had been requesting.

The Denmark international is now expected to miss Celtic’s game away at St Mirren on Sunday to finalise the move.

Brendan Rodgers will also need to look at how to replace O’Riley with LAFC’s Mateusz Bogusz said to be available for around £8m.

O’Riley was a Fulham academy graduate who went on to MK Dons.

Celtic then snapped him up for a modest £1.5m in January 2022 under Ange Postecoglou. He went on to win three Scottish Premiership titles as well as several other cups, all while becoming a Denmark international.
