Dan Quinn has been confirmed as the new head coach of the Washington Commanders – meaning all 32 jobs in the NFL are now occupied.

Quinn has left behind his position as defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys to take on the No 1 job in Washington, becoming the 31st head coach in the franchise’s history.

And his move to the Commanders spells bad news for the likes of Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll and Mike Vrabel, who are still out of work with no more vacant posts available.Dan Quinn, Wife & Family: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

‘I am thrilled for the opportunity to become the next head coach of such a storied franchise and fanbase,’ said Quinn. ‘Under the leadership of Josh Harris, the ownership group, and Adam Peters, we cannot wait to help usher in a new era of Washington Commanders football. The organization has an outstanding vision, and I’m honored to be a part of what’s next.

‘I want to thank Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, Coach Mike McCarthy, and the entire Dallas Cowboys organization for the past three seasons. The players, coaching staff, and everyone across the organization became family in such a short time.

‘We have a great task ahead of us, but the ownership group, Adam, and I are lockstep in putting in the work to achieve our goal: consistently competing for Super Bowls year in and year out.’

Quinn had served as the defensive coordinator for the Cowboys since 2021 but will now go up against his former team twice next season in the NFC East.

Quinn became Washington’s choice after Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, considered a top candidate, told teams Tuesday he was staying with Detroit and the Seahawks hired Baltimore defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald.

Controlling owner Josh Harris, new general manager and head of football operations Adam Peters and Quinn give the organization a much-desired new approach after four years of Ron Rivera in charge turned out to be a disappointment.

‘My partners and I entered this offseason intent on hiring elite candidates to shape the next chapter of Commanders football and I believe we did just that — first with Adam Peters and now by welcoming the highly respected Dan Quinn as our head coach,’ said Harris.
