It has been confirmed that Julen Lopetegui will take over as West Ham’s next head coach. David Moyes stepped down at the end of the season after four and a half years in charge. Since departing Wolves on the eve of the 2023–24 season, this is the first position held by the former manager of Real Madrid, Sevilla, and Spain.
West Ham has appointed Julen Lopetegui as their new head coach, and he will start his tenure on July 1.
The 57-year-old Spaniard takes over for David Moyes, who left the team at the end of his second four-and-a-half-year tenure after winning the Europa Conference League title in 2023, the club’s first major trophy in forty-three years.
Although Lopetegui has not played football since leaving Wolves on the eve of the 2023–2024 season, he has an outstanding resume, having led Spain’s national team for two years and won the UEFA Europa League with Sevilla in 2020. He also had a brief stint as Real Madrid’s manager.
After West Ham finished ninth in the Premier League, he will be tasked with trying to get the team back into Europe.
“I think we have a great platform,” Lopetegui stated on the West Ham website.
As a coach, my goal is to always improve, set more and higher goals, inspire and develop the squad and players, and compete since that’s what football is all about. We have great aspirations for this.I am in my desired location. I am here because I want to be here, and we had a great day closing our deal since this is where we 100% commit to being. We had other options, but I’m thrilled that West Ham choose me because I also selected West Ham, so this makes us very pleased. We
