The Detroit Lions have two key players on the offensive side of the ball who are question marks ahead of the 2024 campaign, as both tight end Sam LaPorta and running back Jahmyr Gibbs are dealing with injuries.

Gibbs and LaPorta are dealing with a hamstring issue they suffered in practice at some point in training camp. Last week, head coach Dan Campbell gave some positive news on both, saying he expected them to return to practice this week.

“We’re hoping the day after the Pittsburgh game — I think we’re going to get a lot of guys back,” Campbell said, per Erik Schlitt of Pride of Detroit. “We’re shooting for Skip (Dan Skipper), (Kevin) Zeitler, (Sam) LaPorta, (Jahmyr) Gibbs, Rodrigo (Malcolm Rodriguez), and I think we may start (DJ) Reader up too. Start working him in individuals. So we’re hoping to get a whole group of guys back on Sunday.”

On Monday, head coach Dan Campbell provided yet another positive update for both players

According to Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News, LaPorta and Gibbs returned to practice on Sunday, which puts both of them firmly on track to play in Week 1.

Coming off sensational rookie campaigns that saw both players make the Pro Bowl, LaPorta and Gibbs will be key members of what figures to be one of the best offenses in the NFL once again in 2024.

LaPorta tallied 86 receptions for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023. He ranked as TE1 overall in PPR and his receptions, yards and touchdowns ranked first, fourth and tied for first among rookie tight ends in league history.
