Following Cameron McGeehan’s broken leg, Pompey’s manager Paul Cook has expressed regret for the reactions of fans. The young player will receive his best wishes from Pompey’s boss. The Luton midfielder needed medical attention after trying to challenge Michael Doyle as the Blues captain cleared the ball during the first half of Monday’s match.

Video replays show that McGeehan’s left foot got stuck in the ground during the action, but there is no indication that the Pompey captain was fouled.

Referee Tim Robinson then gave the 21-year-old a yellow card for “showing dissent by word and/or action.”

That might have to do with beating the ground, as there have been rumors that he spoke to the paramedics and stretcher bearers who had arrived to help him.

Nevertheless, Hatters manager Nathan Jones was incensed over the jeers directed at McGeehan by some Pompey supporters as he was being removed.

We’ve had years and years and years of people talking about how good our support is. In the intensity of the game, it was just lost.’ I’m sure every Pompey fan will be the first to wish Cameron the best of luck and a speedy recovery. ‘I don’t think anyone realised how nasty it was until the stretcher went on – then you know without a shadow of a doubt.’ I believe our supporters will be genuinely disappointed with their reaction.
