From the Archives, 2011: Dramatic prelim win for Magpies over Hawks; Collingwood v MagpiesIrish recruit Muireann Atkinson, draftee Lucy Cronin, and recruits Annie Lee and Carly Remmos are the quartet that will pull on the black and white for the first time.

Atkinson, a Gaelic Football star, will play her first official game of AFLW having only arrived in the country last year.

An uncompromising utility, the Irish product will add a tenacious desire to the Pies’ line up following a stellar first season.

Cronin meanwhile, will make her AFLW debut at the very first opportunity, having been selected with pick nine in last year’s draft.

Despite not playing in either of the Pies’ pre-season games, the tall defender has impressed in her first pre-season at the Club and will form part of a strong back six.

Lee, who arrived via Carlton, and Remmos, who came in as a replacement player last month, will also add class and poise in their first games in black and white.

Lee has 14 AFLW games under her belt, having been selected with pick 10 by the Blues in 2021, while Remmos played two games for Geelong in her one season of AFLW.

Despite being tested throughout the week, Pies skipper Bri Davey will miss the clash.

Bri successfully completed training this week however just fell short of high performance criteria that would see her safely return to the field.

She will look to continue her momentum through training in preparation to make a full return in the coming weeks.

The trip to Sydney will be the third time the Pies have taken on the Swans in the league’s short history.

Sabrina Frederick and Mikala Cann will be a prominent duo in the ruck and midfield for the Pies, with the former recording 39 hit-outs and kicking two goals in last year’s clash with the Swans, while the latter collected 22 touches.
