GOOD NEWS: Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi Release New Album Just Now

Riff godfather cTony Iommi hinted to a “really good” solo album he’s been working on in the studio during his yearly New Year’s letter back in January. Now, he’s provided an update on the project’s development.

It’s progressing well, albeit it “might use some orchestration,” which is good news. The bad news is that there isn’t a scheduled release date.

The legendary member of Black Sabbath claims to have written “a lot of stuff” for the album in an interview with Full Metal Jackie. This would be the singer’s first solo release since Fused in 2005 and his first new song since appearing on Ozzy’s most recent album, Patient Number 9, in 2022.

He states, “I am currently writing material for my own album.” That’s fascinating. There’s also no pressure. Since I obviously have a life to live and enjoy doing all the different things, I just do things when I feel like it.

However, I’ve really liked working on this, just as I did when I worked with Ozzy on a few tunes for his previous album. I’m now completely receptive to all of it. I do anything comes up that I enjoy.

Iommi continues, “I’ve got a lot of stuff [written],” in reference to the next album. However, the engineer and I are finally getting around to sort of assembling it. Thus, it’s been enjoyable.

There’s no pressure, as I’ve said. I don’t have to do it by next week; I can just do it now. I also have to take my time accomplishing things because of everything else that has been looming.

However, the main point is that it’s been enjoyable. And I’m excited for the release of the album as well as really doing it.

Iommi recalled last month that he and Eddie Van Halen co-wrote a song for Black Sabbath, but the band was unable to give the guitar legend credit for his work.

In related news, Geezer Butler, Iommi’s former bandmate, disclosed that planning are underway for a last Black Sabbath performance, and both Osbourne and Butler are already on board.
