I wrote about my troubles with the Detroit Red Wings a little over two weeks ago.
They were playing terrible and were in the midst of a seven-game losing streak. Part of it was brought on by Dylan Larkin, the team captain, getting hurt.
Now that he’s back to full health, though, the team is still killing it. The Red Wings are now two points behind the Washington Capitals for the second (and last) Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference as of this writing (the morning of March 29).h
The regular season consists of nine games left. The games they still have left are listed below:
March 30th, Saturday – @ Florida
As I’ve mentioned previously, Steve Yzerman’s reluctance or refusal to take action to strengthen the defense during the trade deadline is really hurting the team right now. They must occasionally play Justin Holl and Jeff Petry because Jake Walman is sidelined due to injury.
Stevie Y added Petry and Holl as major free agents to bolster the defense. Holl signed a three-year contract; Petry was given a two-year one. Some who were seen as excellent additions have ended up being a complete bust.
For those men have been really terrible!
There isn’t a top goalie for the Red Wings. They have three number two goalies: Alex Lyon (above), James Reimer, and Ville Husso. Although none of the three have been consistently good, they have all had their moments. Their poor defense hasn’t come to their aid.
