An employee vanished last week while traveling through the backcountry in Yellowstone National Park, sparking an ongoing search and rescue operation.
The last time Austin King, a 22-year-old Yellowstone concession worker, was heard from was on September 17, when authorities claim he made a phone call to friends and family from the top of Eagle Peak. Eagle Peak, the highest point in the national park, is situated many miles from the eastern beaches of Yellowstone Lake in the exceedingly isolated southeast corner and rises to a height of over 11,300 feet.
A missing person flyer for King is being distributed by the National Park Service. It has two pictures of the hiker and lists some characteristics that might be able to assist identify him. The flyer describes King as having hazel eyes and brown hair, standing six feet tall. When he vanished, he had a dark-colored bag in one of the two photos, on top of gray leggings and a black hoodie. King has tattoos and wears spectacles.
