Ta’Niya Takes Flight: Star Guard Lands with South Carolina Gamecocks
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Gamecocks just added some serious firepower to their backcourt.
In one of the biggest moves of the NCAA transfer portal season, Ta’Niya Latson, the electrifying guard formerly of Florida State, has officially transferred to South Carolina, joining Coach Dawn Staley’s powerhouse program for the 2025–26 season.
Latson, who averaged 21.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game last season, was one of the top scorers in the country and a major force in the ACC. Known for her explosive first step, deep shooting range, and relentless competitiveness, she is expected to make an immediate impact in Columbia.
“I’m excited to join a program with a winning culture and a coach I’ve always admired,” Latson said in a statement. “South Carolina is a special place, and I can’t wait to get to work.”
Coach Staley called Latson “a dynamic talent and a fierce competitor,” adding, “She brings experience, toughness, and the ability to change a game in an instant. Our fans are going to love watching her.”
Latson will be joining a Gamecocks squad that just made a run to the national championship game and returns key pieces like Raven Johnson and Ashlyn Watkins. Her arrival only raises expectations for South Carolina to remain at the top of the women’s college basketball world.
