JUST IN: Fremantle Dockers training notes featuring Sean Darcy, Caleb Serong, Shai Bolton, Alex Pearce & more…

A big Sean Darcy development, some impressive work from Caleb Serong and Fremantle’s captain looking as strong as he’s ever been were a feature of Dockers training on Monday. Here’s what caught our eye.

Darcy development

Fremantle ruckman Sean Darcy took the significant step of starting the session by doing ballwork with his teammates.

Darcy has had to be patient throughout the pre-season with a lot of rehab, running and strength work required to help his knee to heal from off-season surgery.

That meant he relished the chance to do ball work. It was the lightest of light drills with players walking as part of a handball game, but the smile on Darcy’s face showed how much he’d missed the chance to do anything like that.

Happy chaps

Michael Walters and Shai Bolton will be hoping to enjoy plenty of goal celebrations next season while working in tandem inside forward 50, and they appear to have already built chemistry.

Michael Walters and Shai Bolton share a laugh.

Bolton has only been at the club for three weeks after being recruited from Richmond during the trade period, but if the Dockers can maximise his speed, skill and versatility while also getting goals out of Walters, they’ll be highly entertaining.

Caleb’s kicking

It feels like Caleb Serong finds ways to improve every summer and that’s been one of the reasons why he’s won the last two Doig Medals and is a dual All-Australian.

Serong’s work in tight is a feature of his game but he pushed forward last season and kicked a career-high 11 goals.

So when the Dockers started goalkicking practice on Monday, Serong’s ability to handle the windy conditions was impressive.

The wind was blowing directly across the ground and he watched several players fail to even score with set shots from the left side of the field. He assessed the conditions perfectly and the ball sailed straight through the middle.

Ripped skipper

Captain Alex Pearce is a sight to behold as he prepares to take on the opposition’s best forwards every week.

Alex Pearce is looking ripped.

The star defender is in amazing condition and cut a striking figure as he did strength work on the sidelines.
Pearce missed the last five games of the 2024 season after breaking his arm for the second time and Fremantle badly missed him, losing four of those matches to miss the finals. He looks perfectly positioned to attack 2025.
