After holding out during offseason workouts and training camp, the Cowboys receiver’s patience has paid off, literally. Here are the details of the deal.
After a dreadful offseason of waiting for the Dallas Cowboys to do something about their three star players’ contracts, they have finally gotten at least one deal done. Getting star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s contract extension done arguably should have been the Cowboys’ top priority, especially considering he was holding out from practices until it did.
Then of course, this happened
Lamb missed OTAs, mandatory minicamp, plus the entirety of training camp and the preseason waiting on the deal to get done. The Cowboys’ receiving corps behind Lamb is nothing to write home about and without their WR1, they are not the same team, let alone the same group.
Now, it seems Jerry has finally come to his senses and worked out a deal with CeeDee Lamb
On Monday, the Cowboys finally signed CeeDee Lamb to a 4-year, $136 million contract for an average salary of $34 million, with a $38 million signing bonus, the largest ever given to a wide receiver, and $100 million guaranteed. There was talk that Lamb wanted to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league. While he’s still under Vikings’ Justin Jefferson, who is making an average of $35 million, apparently second-best was good enough for Lamb, who is now the second-highest paid non-quarterback in the league.
Lamb led the NFL and set a franchise record with 135 receptions for 1,749 yards last season and added 12 receiving touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns to the books. He was heading into the fifth-year option of his rookie contract and set to make $17.99 million.
