Within a week of coach Craig McRae announcing he would be talking to the club’s veterans about their future, Collingwood great Scott Pendlebury has announced he will play for the Magpies next season. The Magpies defeated Richmond, who was in last position, over the weekend to earn a crucial victory that preserved their chances of playing AFL finals football.
Last week, McRae acknowledged that he was having continuous talks with the veterans and that, should Collingwood fail to win a finals match in 2024, some difficult decisions would need to be made. However, Pendlebury has declared he would stay at the club in 2025 with a new contract, adding to the weekend’s victory.Enjoy yourself in the club.
If the team stays the same, Collingwood will have 11 players over 30 when the season starts the following year. Pendlebury (37 in January of next year) and Sidebottom (34 in January of next year), two twin premiership heroes, may face concerns following a season that may see them miss out on finals football.
Last week, McRae acknowledged that, should Collingwood fail to win finals football, he was in constant communication with the veterans and would have to make some difficult decisions. But to round off the weekend’s triumph, Pendlebury revealed he will sign a new contract with the team for 2025.
“To be really honest, all I want is to make it through 400 and attempt to win…It will rely on my performance and the team’s performance, as I have a contract for next year,” Pendlebury stated on SEN Radio. “‘Fly’ has been really good with me, and we have ongoing conversations about how I see myself and how he sees me.”
