Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, Chris Cohen, the new assistant head coach at Stoke City, expressed his excitement about working with Steven Schumacher. The two completed their Pro Licence together before joining the coaching pathway, so this won’t be a new relationship. Cohen said of his approach to the job, “I like to focus on working with the individual; when I was a player, I felt like my career, a lot of the time, was spent focusing on Saturday’s result and not on development. Since I have moved into first teams over the last six years, I’ve focused a lot of my time on individual and unit development, that then goes into full team practice.
“I’ve watched a lot of their games and they had a fantastic end to the season, they’ve got some really good players here.”
Cohen has previously collaborated with Nathan Jones, the former manager of the Potters. After just nine months in charge at the bet365 Stadium, the Welshman was fired, with just six victories in 38 games. Cohen claims that Jones, though, was all praise for the football team:
Although the connection isn’t what Jones had hoped for, he only had positive things to say about the team, the owners, and the supporters.
“I spoke to him about coming in and he said you will absolutely love it there, there’s so many good people.”
Paul Gallagher, the first team coach at Stoke City, has resigned from his position.
After Alex Neil was fired, Gallagher, who spent two loan stints as a player with the Potters, joined the coaching staff of the team last summer and assumed interim management duties.
“I wish to place on record the Club’s thanks to Paul for his work and dedication as part of our first team staff, and during his interim period in charge, last season,” stated Jonathan Walters, the Sporting Director of Stoke City.
“Paul will naturally always have a warm welcome from the fans when he returns to the bet365 Stadium in the future. He enjoyed success here as a player before returning to Stoke City as a coach. Everyone had a connection to the Club.
