After adding eight additional players on Friday, the Pittsburgh Steelers officially signed their entire 16-man practice squad, securing a spot for every player.

The Steelers would need to receive an international exemption before they could fill their remaining theoretical spot.

Pittsburgh’s first practice squad reflects its requirements. For instance, the team only has two outside linebackers on the practice squad in addition to the three on the regular roster. Pittsburgh has three additional wide receivers on the practice squad in addition to the five wide outs on the active roster. In order to build depth and have a roster that can function as a taxi service from week to week, the Steelers brought in a good blend of young players and veterans.

The practice squad has changed from being a location where clubs would dump individuals on to grow to nearly acting as an additional ring for the depth chart with the expansion of the squad and the implementation of an elevation system. Veterans can now more easily get employment on the practice squad because of this.

Regarding the practice squad’s regulations, every player is eligible to be promoted three times a season from the practice squad to the active roster. Every week, teams can promote two players. The protection regulations from the COVID era are no longer in effect, and every week, any player can be plucked from any practice squad. A team’s practice squad may contain up to six veterans, who are players who have played in two seasons. Teams are not permitted to add players to their practice squad from another practice squad.
