Fans of classic rock Join together once more to experience Led Zeppelin’s music as it was intended to be heard: loudly and live.

Our Come Together Allstar band had matured into a true band by the time we watched them perform Joshua Tree by U2 (click here for the review). And they’ve improved since then!

Major props to the Liberty Stage staff for putting this together and music director Jol Mulholland, who got to showcase his skills tonight.

The usual suspects have returned. With Brett Adams on guitar, Mike Hall on bass, Alistair Deverick on drums, and Matthias Jordan on keys, the group performed. Julia Deans and Milan Borich are back to sing, joined by newcomers E.J. Barnes and Jennie Skulander (Devilskin).

Having saw Milan perform solo acoustically at The Wine Cellar the previous evening, belting out tunes by artists like Nick Drake and Tom Waits, I have to admit that seeing him go all out on these Zeppelin rockers was quite awesome. The same is true for E.J. Barnes, who performed Australian pub rock with her father Jimmy in this same location the previous evening.

Usually, the first set includes a performance of the featured album, and then comes a set of the band’s “greatest hits.” Not tonight, because Misty Mountain Hop, Black Dog, and Stairway To Heaven are difficult to follow. Thus, we are treated to seventy minutes of Led Zeppelin classics, including the band’s opening song, Immigrant Song. The set is incredibly varied, showcasing the band’s musicality with songs like Trampled Under Foot, Over the Hills and Far Away, What Is and What Should Never Be, and Dazed and Confused, which is said to be the song that the original band performed the most.
