Blue Jays manager blasts team after latest loss | YardbarkerIf you’re a Toronto Blue Jays fan with a sense of ennui, indifference or disinterest about the upcoming season, you’re not alone.

According to the results of our latest Blue Jays fan survey, which garnered nearly 2,500 responses, as the 2024 season approaches, there is a feeling of blah amongst many in the fanbase. The state of the team isn’t as dire as, say, the Boston Red Sox, but there is a lack of excitement around the Blue Jays this season.

“I don’t know if my expectations were too high going into the last two seasons,” one survey respondent wrote. “One way or another they are much lower this time. It feels like the rebuild is falling flat.”

The diminished excitement isn’t unexpected. The team has disappointed in back-to-back postseasons. Expectations were high that they were going to make a splash this offseason, but their full-court press pursuit of Shohei Ohtani proved unsuccessful and the Blue Jays didn’t pivot to another top free-agent. (In theory, Cody Bellinger and Matt Chapman are still available to sign.)

Instead, the team is largely running it back with a similar group from last year, but hoping for positive regression — especially on offence. But, based on our survey results, it seems that lingering frustration from the 2023 team combined with a lack of impactful offseason moves has lowered many fans’ expectations of what the Blue Jays will be capable of this season, in an increasingly difficult American League East division.

Thank you to everyone who responded and shared their thoughts. It’s incredibly valuable to know the pulse of the fan base ahead of what’s going to be a pivotal season. We received more than 1,600 comments and you’ll see some of those thoughts throughout the article. Now, onto the results.
