Breaking news: new York Yankees key players are leaving the club……..

A two-time all-star is linked to the Yankees in a potential surprise trade this offseason.

Is it worth it for the Yankees to try making the unexpected trade for the star closer?

The New York Yankees had the finest bullpen in baseball the previous season, but if they hope to carry that success into 2024, they will need to add a few players this offseason.

This offseason, New York may lose one or two impact arms at most. Wandy Peralta, a former fireballer for the Yankees, is a free agent and it is not yet known if he will return to the team. Although a number of interesting relievers have been connected to New York, the market hasn’t moved much as of now.

Emmanuel Clase, the All-Star closer for the Cleveland Guardians, has been mentioned as a possible surprise trade candidate, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic.

“However, there’s uncertainty with all relievers, and the Guardians have decided to at least listen to trade offers for Clase, who is only 25 years old,” Bowden stated. “They’re reminding teams that Clase will make significantly less than Josh Hader, 29, is asking for on the open market, and they’re particularly interested in seeing if they could get an impact corner outfielder in return.”

“Teams such as the (Texas Rangers) (Clase’s former club), (Los Angeles Dodgers), and Yankees would fit with the Guardians on a trade because all three have the outfielders that Cleveland covets.”

Bowden prepared a list of the best candidates for trades for the remainder of the offseason. Clase was on the list, and the Yankees were listed as one of the few teams who could acquire him.

The Yankees’ bullpen would benefit greatly from the addition of Clase. The 25-year-old led the American League in saves in both of the previous two seasons (2022 with 42 and 2023 with 44), and he was chosen an All-Star in each of those contests. Clase would not cost much in terms of pay, with a career 2.00 ERA over four seasons.

Though a transfer seems like it would make sense, the Yankees would probably have to give up at least one good prospect in return.
