The college football recruiting community pays special attention to blue-chip talents on National Signing Day each year when they formally announce their plans. The action is usually dominated by five-star players, and this Wednesday was no exception as several outstanding recruits made unexpected choices toward the end of their recruitment procedures. The biggest splash came from Ohio State prospect Jeremiah Smith, the top pick overall, who silenced rumors of a possible flip.

Each class has 32 five-star recruits, which corresponds to the 32 NFL Draft first-round selections. These guys are the ones 247Sports evaluators think have the best chance of being selected in the first round when their college careers are over.

Without Ohio State obtaining at least one outstanding wide receiver, National Signing Day wouldn’t be the same. On Wednesday, the Buckeyes continued that tradition by selecting two five-star pass catchers. Mylan Graham, who enters the program with more than 2,000 yards and 21 touchdowns in 24 career high school games, is the second-highest ranked wideout in the Buckeyes’ collection.

After Miami made a strong attempt to get him, David Stone, who is originally from Oklahoma, comes home to become a possible impact player in the trenches for Brent Venables and Co. Up until the very end, when Stone took up the OU hat and made his commitment to the Sooners, in fact, everything was moving in the Hurricanes’ favor.

Jordan Seaton, the top tackle in the class, rose from No. 31 to No. 13 overall in the pre-Signing Day Top247 ratings update, making him one of the biggest risers. It was a startling choice for him to commit to Colorado at first, but it seems that he may be changing his mind. Seaton, a resident of Washington, D.C., would rank as the Terrapins’ third-highest-rated commit of all time if he chooses to play college football nearby.

Missouri played a significant role in his process and attempted a late push for a possible flip, but when Wingo signed his NLI with Texas, Eli Drinkwitz and the Tigers lost that momentum. The No. 4 receiver in the 2024 class and native of St. Louis is expected to leave his home state to join the potent Longhorns offense.

Despite reaffirming his commitment to the Gators, LJ McCray faced uncertainty during a day filled with flips from Florida commits. He had reportedly held talks with Auburn and Florida State. During his signing live broadcast, the defensive lineman ranked second in the country remarked, “I don’t know why you all thought I was flipping,” and he signed a contract committing to Florida. Throughout the season, the Daytona Beach, Florida, native recorded 37 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, three forced fumbles, two pass breakups, and an interception.

After some late buzz hinted that a flip to Miami, Florida State, or Florida was possible, all eyes were on Jeremiah Smith and his announcement. But when he reaffirmed his pledge to Ohio State as the prospective next great pass-catcher in a long line of all-time Buckeye greats, the nation’s top recruit and a historically gifted wide receiver put an end to such whispers.
