“I can’t in good conscience pick this team to win another game,” I told myself in the last moments of the Cards game. Naturally, I reserve the right to change my view heading into the conference semifinal round if they win a playoff game the following weekend. But to be honest, after what the past five weeks have shown us? I genuinely find it impossible to see this Eagles squad winning anything. I don’t care who the opposition is, how little or much is on the line, how much or little the starters get to play, or anything else. They’ll eventually, in my opinion, just manage to lose. Perhaps they will show me a surprise up at the Meadowlands. They might finally put everything together for the first time in.

It might not matter, which makes this a bit of an odd game. The Eagles are guaranteed the No. 5 spot in the NFC unless the Commanders surprise the Cowboys. However, the Eagles must play to win because the Cowboys vs. Commanders game is scheduled for the same time. With the exception of Darius Slay (knee) and DeVonta Smith (ankle), they will be starting most of their players. The Eagles ought to watch that other game, of course. Pulling the starters and leaving the field is the right move if Dallas is ahead by several touchdowns in the second half. This is what makes this game so difficult to predict. The Eagles are unquestionably the superior team, which further complicates matters,

They should be able to do enough in this game, in my opinion. Ideally, the Eagles will be able to shake off some of the negative emotions from last week’s heartbreaking loss to the Cardinals. One can also ask if the Giants will be anticipating their trip to Cancun or the golf course with excitement. The Eagles should win this game, in my opinion, and move on to the playoffs.

The Eagles will undoubtedly be keeping an eye on the scoreboard on Sunday, given the conditions needed to win the NFC East. Josh Harris was not the owner in Washington, and the second choice was out of their grasp even if the Commanders defeated the Cowboys in week 18 of the previous season. In addition, the Eagles’ injury report has already ruled out Darius Slay and DeVonta Smith, so I have a suspicion that their starters will be benched soon. A road matchup with the NFC South champion in the first round isn’t a bad consolation prize, even though a division title and home games sound appealing. Naturally, the benefits of being the second seed would truly disappear in the next round.

The question then arises: how much should you wait to turn off the starters before doing so? In a perfect scenario, the defense demonstrates a minimum level of proficiency and the offense puts up a few touchdown drives early on to give the backups some breathing room. Turnovers, penalties, and poor game management have been the main offensive problems. For me, it’s more important that the defense improves its communication of duties and gets more game experience. It appears that under Matt Patricia, it is a pre-snap fire drill.
