The Seattle Seahawks are now searching for their next head coach, and unlike Mike Holmgren, Pete Carroll will not have a chosen replacement.

Pete Carroll, the former coach—sorry, it still feels odd to say this—told reporters during the tearful press conference on Wednesday that General Manager John Schneider will select the next coach and that he will not be part in the selection process.

Carroll responded, “That will be on Johnny’s docket,” when questioned about the pursuit of a new head coach. “He’s going to go after it and make that happen with ownership and all that, and we’ll be providing them with as much support as we can to ensure they perform admirably with it.”

Carroll stated he won’t be participating in the process of selecting his successor, even though he will technically still be employed by the company.

Carroll later remarked, “Looking ahead, if there’s any way that I can add something to it down the road, we’ll see what happens.” However, this is a good.

What about Carroll’s new position as a counselor? That role’s parameters are still up in the air.

“We’re going to resolve that. Right now, we truly don’t know,” he remarked. However, I applaud the organization’s desire to make an effort to identify a reasonable solution. So let’s wait and see. I’m not sure.

Carroll had also held the position of Vice President of Football Operations, but going forward, John Schneider will be in charge of people under this arrangement. This is the fulfillment of everyone’s desire to see Carroll and Schneider practically separate, so to speak. Schneider’s deal is valid until the NFL Draft in 2027.
