Chris Partridge will always be a Jersey Guy, but his days as a Michigan Man are over.

One day after Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh accepted a three-game suspension for his program’s in-person scouting violations from the Big Ten, Wolverines athletic director Warde Manuel announced the firing of Partridge, a linebackers coach who previously coached Paramus Catholic to a Non-Public Group 4 state championship.

According to ESPN: The actions of Michigan in agreeing to discipline and then firing Partridge mark a change in how the institution has viewed this investigation. Information gleaned in NCAA interviews led in part to the acceptance of the Big Ten decision and Partridge’s firing. Michigan had petitioned a Michigan court for a stay of the suspension, which began with last Saturday’s victory over Penn State.

“Effective today, Chris Partridge has been relieved of his duties as a member of the Michigan Football staff,” Manuel said in a statement. “Rick Minter will serve as the team’s linebackers coach.”

Multiplesources told Yahoo Sports that Partridge is not alleged at this time of knowing about the advanced scouting by Stalions, but acted after the fact to cover up evidence. Sources tell Yahoo Sports that a booster — named in the NCAA report as “Uncle T” — helped fund the scheme, giving Stalions thousands of dollars for expenses

“From the outset, our focus has been on seeking due process and allowing the NCAA to conduct a fair and deliberate investigation,” Michigan said in a prepared statement. “Although the Big Ten has closed its investigation, we are continuing to cooperate with the NCAA as it moves forward with its ongoing investigation. Consistent with our commitment to integrity, we will continue to take the appropriate actions, including disciplinary measures, based on information we obtain.

The university cited employee privacy laws when declining further comment.

Partridge was in his fifth season as a member of Michigan’s staff. This was his second tour with the program. He initially served as the special teams coordinator from 2016-19 before hopping to Ole Miss as the defensive coordinator for three seasons. He returned to Michigan in February to coach the linebackers.

Partridge originally moved to Ann Arbor after serving as head coach at Paramus Catholic, his alma mater where he coached Jabrill Peppers and Rashan Gary, both All Americans who are currently playing in the NFL. When Partridge was on Harbaugh’s staff at Michigan, Harbaugh held a satellite recruiting camp at Paramus Catholic and spoke at the commencement ceremony when Gary, then the nation’s top prospect, graduated in 2016 at the Prudential Center in Newark.

The Big Ten suspended Harbaugh for violating the conference’s sportsmanship policy with the allegations that former staffer Connor Stalions scouted teams in-person and recorded play signals to steal the signs from opposing teams. Michigan did not specify in its statement if Partridge was connected to the allegations.
