BREAKING NEWS: Premier League sets date for hearing over Man City financial charges.

Richard Masters, the CEO of the Premier League, announced on Tuesday that a hearing date has been set for the alleged financial rule violations by Manchester City.

Following their takeover by the Abu Dhabi-based City Football Group, City was accused of violating more than 100 financial regulations in February. As a result, an independent committee was tasked with hearing the case.

“A date has been established for the procedure. Though I’m not sure when that will be, it’s moving forward, Masters informed the UK Parliament’s Culture, Media, and Sport (CMS) Committee.

City said they welcomed “the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position” when the charges were made public in February.

Masters informed the committee that the accusations made against City, who are vying for a fourth consecutive Premier League title this year, are distinct from those made against Everton and Nottingham Forest on Monday.

He declared, “Any club, whether they were the reigning champions or not, would be in exactly the same position as Everton or Nottingham Forest if they had been found in breach of the spending rules.”

“However, the nature and extent of the accusations made against Manchester City—which I am obviously not allowed to discuss at all—are being heard in a totally different setting.”

Everton and Forest could lose points; this would be Everton’s second point deduction of the season after they were docked 10 in November.
