JUST IN: Seattle Seahawks has agreed to sign coach……….

One of the most desirable candidates on the coaching carousel is scheduled to interview with the Seattle Seahawks today. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Seahawks will interview Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, on Saturday in order to fill the head coaching position.

In a Tuesday press conference, Seahawks general manager John Schneider stated that while candidates like Johnson who are still coaching in the postseason will still be considered, the organization has “rules we need to abide by” as they try to replace Pete Carroll. Sunday in the Divisional Round, Johnson and the Lions will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ben Johnson, Mike Macdonald and Jerod Mayo among young NFL coaches to watch

Thanks to coach Dan Campbell’s strategy and the wealth of talent on that side of the ball, Johnson has helped lead a rejuvenated Detroit offense this season that is now among the best in the league.

The Lions offense, which is led by quarterback Jared Goff, includes an impressive offensive line, All-Pro receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, a dynamic duo of running backs in David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, and rookie tight end Sam LaPorta. During the regular season, Detroit had the third-highest offensive yards per game (394.8).

Johnson would have an offensive line that is as good but has fallen short of expectations this season if he were to move to Seattle.
