Ahead of Sunday’s final pre-season match, Tony Smith has disclosed that his Hull FC team has suffered two serious injuries. In Scott Taylor’s testimonial match, the Black and Whites play the Wigan Warriors, and the head coach selects a 22-man team for the game.

Despite losing two of their recent additions, Morgan Smith and Liam Tindall, due to injuries, they have nevertheless selected six new players for the matchup with the Super League winners. Featuring Nu Brown, Herman Ese’ese, Franklin Pele, Jayden Okunbor, Jack Ashworth, and Jack Walker, it will be Hull’s first friendly at the MKM Stadium since 2018.

Young Will Gardiner, Davy Litten, Lewis Martin, and Jack Charles join them. After taking a head hit at Doncaster, Jordan Lane is cleared to play, and Danny Houghton is named after recovering from a hand strain. Star testimonial Scott Taylor is also on the team.

No surprise, but here's why finding CTE in rugby league players matters

“Liam Tindall broke his thumb in training last week,” Smith stated. “On Thursday, he will see a consultant to determine the extent of the problem. During the friendly match against Doncaster, Morgan Smith also had a minor strain to his knee. We’re hoping he’ll be ready for us in the first round.

“As this is our last practice before the season begins, I’m excited to play well against a formidable Wigan team. Although we’ve gained a lot of experience from our friendlies with Bradford and Doncaster, facing the champions is a crucial last test for us before the real season begins.

“I’m hoping to see players seizing the opportunity and fighting for the chance to feature in the Derby, as spots in the Round One squad are still up for grabs.”

Hull is also missing Kye Armstrong (shoulder), Cobie Wainhouse (ACL), Mitieli Vulikijapani (knee), and Jake Trueman (achilles). Denive Balmforth is left out after suffering a shoulder injury.
