JUST IN: A Sign In Of This Legend To Rugby League Have so much Target On………..

Ben Hursey has joined the Halifax Panthers from Leeds Rhinos of the Super League on a one-year contract.

The 21-year-old back rower, who started his Rugby League career with Invictus Panthers in Maidstone after joining the London Broncos academy, made an impression during our Christmas Eve friendly at Odsal while dual registering with the team. He demonstrated enough skills to secure a contract with Liam Finn’s team.

“I’m thrilled to be here,” Hursey said. “I am eager to start working with the club, perhaps gaining some valuable experience and demonstrating my perspective. Conditions were difficult when I played on Christmas Eve, but it was a nice opportunity to spend time with the lads, see how they play, and just get to know them. I was pleased with how I performed because I thought I played well, completed my task, and played the second half.

“I consider myself to be an explosive player—strong and quick—who just wants to get in where I can and get the job done. I simply want to play some games, help the club as much as I can while taking notes from the more seasoned players here, gain as much experience as I can, and improve as a player. I know Matty Gee because I was in London when he was there, but I also want to see how I can improve as a person by learning from the older players in my position.

Liam Finn delighted with signing Leeds Rhinos youngster

“Ben is a great lad with a great attitude,” stated Liam Finn, head coach of the Panthers. Having had very little preparation from us, he showed up for the Christmas Eve game, in at halftime when everyone else was dirty, and immediately made an impression with a few excellent carries. He also played defensively; he’s a hard-charging young man who aspires to succeed in rugby league.

“I’ve spoken with Leeds’ Rohan Smith about him, his training regimen, and everything, but it’s evident that he’s not quite ready to play for Headingley’s first squad just yet. When the chance arose to add him to our team, particularly following the loss of Brandon (Moore), it strengthened our group and added a little toughness and tenacity to our back rowers, Kav, Gee, and Olly.

We don’t have a lot of players in that position, so hopefully we can get him out there soon so Halifax fans can see that, even at such a young age, he’s a big, physically strong boy who enjoys grabbing the ball and working hard—two qualities that are always valued in Halifax. It’s a hardworking community, and they appreciate that kind of person, so I think they’ll like him.

“What makes him good is his work ethic and drive to get better at what he does. He just wants to pick up skills from those around him, and he will benefit from spending time with people like Kav.” He has the opportunity to train at Leeds while attending university there, so he can pick up some valuable skills from the pros there as well. He has a lot of potential, in my opinion, but he also possesses the fortitude and maturity to support his teammates and be prepared to step in when needed.
