  • Titmuss most likely passed away from exertional heat stroke after working out with the NRL team.A coronial inquest into the 20-year-old’s unexpected death got underway on Monday, over three years after the budding prodigy became unwell during pre-season training.

On November 23, 2020, Titmuss had a seizure at the club’s headquarters in Narrabeen, on Sydney’s northern beaches, after noticing body cramps while stretching following a cardio session.

After being transported there by ambulance, he subsequently passed away at Royal North Shore Hospital.

Titmuss most certainly suffered from heat stroke, according to the attorney supporting coroner Adam Casselden SC, even if the postmortem report was unable to determine the cause of death.

When paramedics got there, they saw that Titmuss had a fever of 41.9C and a heart rate of more than 140 bpm.

When Titmuss’ weight went up from 112 kg to 116.9 kg during the training session, the Manly coaching team saw he had been struggling.

According to Mr. Casselden, “the truth is that Keith was not as fit and accustomed to the heat as he would have been at other times.”

“Research on American football players has shown that during the first 14 days of practice following the off-season, there is the highest risk of heat exhaustion.”

Only three days had passed since he joined the club’s top-30 NRL roster when he passed away.

After helping the Sea Eagles win their first Holden Cup championship in 2017 with a try on the siren to defeat Parramatta, Titmuss has been a rising star at the team.

Before being selected as the players’ player for the 2019 Jersey Flegg Cup squad, he scored the game-winning try for Wayne Lambkin’s team in the previous cup grand final.
