JUST IN: An announcement on a groundbreaking Super League TV shift is imminent.

For many reasons, the 2024 rugby league season is expected to be momentous as a new chapter in the history of the sport we all love, particularly in the Super League, begins.

The true start of IMG’s new era in the sport comes this year, as they aim to revitalize it and make sure it can continue to expand both economically and in terms of the size of its fan following.

The teams who will be in the Super League in 2025 will be determined by their official first grades, which will be made public at the end of the 2024 season. Their illustrative grades were made public at the end of 2023.

A new venue for the sport’s TV broadcast will debut in 2024. Many TV contracts with Sky Sports, Channel 4, and Viaplay expired in 2023, while the BBC’s contract was scheduled to expire in 2024 with the Challenge Cup.

A new agreement with Sky Sports was reached by IMG, the RFL, and RL Commercial in a historic step for the sport. Even if it was slightly less than the first agreement, this is still worth more than £20 million. This is in addition to SuperLeague+, a new streaming service.

Every game will receive additional coverage thanks to this agreement, but the sport is still searching for a free-to-air broadcaster. Channel 4 apparently competed for the rights but lost out.

It is understood by Serious About Rugby League that this agreement will be revealed soon, which will be a huge boost for our incredible sport as we enter a critical new chapter.

Probably one game per week, starting at 17:30 on BBC Two and ending at 18:00, will be shown. They will carry on covering the Challenge Cup, since Premier Sports is said to be returning to the sport having previously covering the Championship. On Sunday nights, they will broadcast both the Championship matches and the Challenge Cup matches that the BBC does not cover.
