The two got together while attending San Diego State University as undergraduates. Since then, Shipley has supported Leonard during all of his significant professional turning points. The couple has also shared many life achievements, such as the births of their two children.

Leonard rarely discusses his relationship in public, but in 2019 he did say that he wanted to “play at home” and be closer to his family, which is why he moved from the Toronto Raptors to the Los Angeles Clippers.

“It was more of a family issue than a basketball choice for me. I feel that we should make the most of our time with our loved ones while we’re here, which is one of the main reasons I came to the Clippers,” he said to Yahoo Sports. “Basketball will be here for a long time without me.”
