Lions disappointed after receiving a very strong warning from NFL

Dallas Turner, an edge rusher for Alabama, most likely won’t be available when the Detroit Lions select first at No. 29 overall. However, Christian Booher of SI.com All Lions claimed that the Lions shouldn’t consider Turner even if he was.

Booher listed five players the Lions should pass on in the 2024 NFL Draft, including the All-American edge rusher from Alabama.

With 55 pressures and 10 sacks at the end of the previous season, Turner advanced significantly as a pass-rusher, according to Booher’s analysis. “With 22.5 total sacks at the end of his three seasons at Alabama, it seems likely that he will be a good player in the pros.”Turner did not, however, significantly enhance his work against the run. It was the lowest run defense grade in his three-year career—69.8—that he received from Pro Football Focus.

Turner’s performance didn’t always demonstrate the kind of player the Lions need—players who can hold their own against the run. Detroit may be selective and select their preferred fit because there is a strong pass-rusher class early on.

Most people will be surprised if they hear any advice to avoid Turner in the forthcoming selection. Turner is rated as one of the top two edge rushers in the 2024 draft class according to the consensus draft rankings from ESPN, Pro Football Focus, and Bleacher Report.

Turner is also ranked as a top 16 prospect overall on all three draft boards.
Turner finished the previous season with 10 sacks, 14.5 tackles for loss, 2 caused fumbles, and 1 pass defense. He recorded 22.5 sacks and 32.5 tackles for loss in 38 games over his three years at Alabama.

Fears Regarding Alabama’s Edge Rusher Dallas Turner Draft analysts from Bleacher Report and PFF acknowledged that Turner isn’t yet ready, especially when it comes to stopping the run. Matt Holder of BR contended

Holder observed, “He could stand to gain a little more muscle to better compete in the NFL. He is a little light.” “It will also enable him to shed blocks more reliably.”
Turner, though, is incredibly athletic, especially when he rushes the quarterback. Turner’s upside makes him a top 10 choice in 2024, even if it takes him some time to mature.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein described him as “long and athletic with the explosive traits needed to become an impactful NFL pass rusher.” “It might take Turner some time to establish himself as a starting 3-4 outside linebacker because his frame and game are not as developed as Will Anderson Jr.’s after he left Alabama last season.”

Turner probably won’t be selected until the No. 29 overall pick. If he does, the decline on the board will either be due to his run defense or the fact that he still needs to grow.

Turner, though, might offer exceptional value at No. 29 that is difficult to ignore.
