The fact that Schnellenberger did not fit in Norman was evident very soon. Despite being compelled to step down in 1994, Gary Gibbs continued to coach the 1994 Copper Bowl. After a 31-6 loss to BYU, Scnellenberger called his guys out of shape and traveled to witness his new teams play in the bowl game. This caused instant rifts with his players.
