What a pleasant surprise: Louisville have finally signed their dream player

The Huskies’ former guard is the current Pac-12 Sixth Player of the Year.
LOUISVILLE, KY: For the first season under new head coach Pat Kelsey, the men’s basketball program at Louisville has added another significant player.
Koren Johnson, a former shooting guard for Washington, stated on Monday that he had verbally committed to the Cardinals.
This offseason, Johnson is the sixth transfer to commit to Louisville. Following Kelsey from Charleston are guard Reyne Smith and center James Scott; James Madison guard/forward Terrence Edwards Jr. and guard J’Vonne Hadley from Colorado are also joining the team. Center Aly Khalifa from BYU also committed, however he will sit out the 2024–25 campaign.

After winning Pac-12 Sixth Player of the Year, the 6-foot-2, 175-pound shooting guard, who played his first two years of college ball in Washington, is coming off of one of his best seasons. Over 31 games and five starts, Johnson averaged 11.1 points, 2.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals. He also shot 37.3 percent from three-point range and 44.1 percent from the field.

The Seattle native was a four-star prospect out of high school, with the 247Sports Composite ranking him as the No. 132 prospect and No. 17 combo guard in the Class of 2022. He averaged 6.8 points and 1.8 assists in 29 games as a freshman for the Huskies, all coming off the bench.

The six portal commits from Louisville this offseason won’t be their final additions to the team. The Cardinals’ roster started to rotate as soon as second-year head coach Kenny Payne was fired on March 13.
After their 2023–24 season ended, 11 Louisville players went through the portal, meaning the Cardinals had no scholarship players returning. The only player scheduled to return is walk-on guard Hercy Miller, since two more have graduated. Additionally, UofL’s Class of 2024 contains no committed high school recruits.
