Sad News For Lakers: LeBron James likely never to play again

The Los Angeles Lakers were hoping to bounce back from their loss to the Sacramento Kings and defeat Stephen Curry and company at Crypto.com Arena on Saturday. Sadly, things didn’t go as planned, as Anthony Davis only played 12 minutes due to an eye injury and the team was unable to win without him. Late in the first quarter, Trayce Jackson-Davis struck Davis in the face as he was going up for a layup. Although it didn’t seem like much of an injury at first, it was obviously hurting Davis, as he went straight to the bench and appeared to be having issues opening his left eye.

Davis’ left eye swelled shut by halftime, thus he was ultimately declared out of the game. The Lakers suffered a costly loss as a result of his inability to continue seeing out of that eye. After the game, LeBron James discussed how Davis’s absence had a significant impact on Los Angeles’s subsequent loss to Golden State.

James remarked, “Well, I mean, when you’ve been practicing with our prep for a few days and you lose a key player to your team in one quarter.” “We made an effort to learn it, but it’s clear that there are some tasks we cannot complete without AD.”

Before exiting the game, Davis had eight points, pulled down four rebounds, had two assists, a block, and a steal. He was off to a respectable start to the game.

James discussed the areas on the basketball court where Davis was most missed when he left the game after just 12 minutes.

James remarked, “Obviously, we have another threat on the floor all the time, both offensively and defensively, versus a team that has multiple threats.” “So, it goes without saying that losing AD throws off our team’s equilibrium. Naturally, we’ve been fairly successful, and our coaching team has been successful in helping us with certain rotations and how we operate inside them. As a result, a lot of things have changed.

“It is evident that Steph Curry’s return altered their dynamic. You could tell the difference between Steph’s scoring and non-scoring performances in the last several games. Having a significant piece of the puzzle and then losing it is difficult.

The Lakers’ record now stands at 36-32 for the season as a consequence of the loss, which seems to suggest that they will finish as the 10th seed in the Western Conference and will need to win the Play-In Tournament in order to qualify for the NBA playoffs this year.
